Embroidery basics

Embroidery is often considered as an art, and it requires patience and creativity. While machine embroidery makes the work much easier, hand embroidery has its own finish. Moreover, it takes more time to master the art of hand embroider, as precise stitching comes with practice. This article is for those who are planning to step into embroidery. Here are the basics to keep in mind:

Supplies

Thread - Choose DMC, it is easy to find and gives a great finishing to your piece of work.

Needles - Embroidery needles are thicker than regular needles, which allow the thread to pass through easily.

Fabric - To begin with, use cotton or linen fabric. It stays firm while stitching and doesn’t deform. Avoid using stretchy and fabric made of wool.

Embroidery hoops - You will need to use the right frame depending on the size of your fabric. Make sure you purchase frames in different sizes.

Scissors - A small scissor is fine. Given that it is sharp enough to cut the threads quickly.

Chalk pencils - Chalk pencils can be used to trace any design onto your fabric, or even a normal pencil would do.
